According to CATSA guidelines, in order to be screened, these items must be removed from carrying cases and placed in a bin (see exception). Lithium ion batteries with a watt-hour (Wh) rating of 100 Wh or less may be carried in a device in either carry-on or checked baggage. Spare batteries: Spare lithium ion batteries of 100 Wh or less must be packed in carry-on and are permitted only with air carrier approval in checked baggage.
